  • Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) praised the passage of the "One Big, Beautiful Bill" (OBBB), calling it the most significant investment in U.S. border security and immigration enforcement in decades.
  • The OBBB allocates approximately $75 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through 2029, funding expanded detention capacity, increased deportations and major staffing boosts.
  • Passed via budget reconciliation, the bill needed only a simple Senate majority, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote, enabling Republicans to avoid Democrat-backed amnesty provisions.
  • Gill claimed the Biden administration oversaw an influx of over 15 million illegal immigrants, which he links to overwhelmed housing, healthcare and education systems.
  • Gill warned that mass migration threatens America's "unique cultural foundation," asserting that national identity and social trust are undermined without strict immigration controls.
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) has claimed that the recently passed "One Big, Beautiful Bill" (OBBB) delivers the most significant investment in border security and immigration enforcement in decades. In a recent interview with immigration news outlet Border Hawk, Gill emphasized that the OBBB marks a historic shift in U.S. immigration policy – one that bypassed Democratic resistance to prioritize enforcement over amnesty. "For decades, we have had a border crisis. That's not something that was created under Joe Biden, but it certainly got exponentially worse under Joe Biden," Gill said during the interview. "During that time, the American people were saying, 'We want border security. We want to be able to determine who is coming into our country, on our terms. And we would like to deport the people who came here illegally.'" The Texas freshman congressman said the American public has consistently demanded stronger control over immigration, including the deportation of illegal entrants – a demand he claims has been repeatedly ignored due to political gridlock. However, that changed with the passage of the OBBB, which was advanced through the budget reconciliation process, requiring only a simple Senate majority. Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking 51st vote to pass the bill. The OBBB directs approximately $75 billion in funding to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through 2029. The money will be used to expand detention centers, increase deportation operations and recruit thousands of new agents and support personnel. "That is a huge win – a decades-long victory for conservatives," Gill said.

Gill calls mass migration the "biggest issue of our time"

He framed the legislation as a necessary response to what he calls the most urgent issue facing the country: mass migration. "Mass migration, whatever you think about it, is the one issue that impacts all the other issues. If you think of national security, the availability of social services for Americans, housing, education, medical resources – it impacts everything," Gill said. "Most fundamentally, it impacts the cultural makeup of the country, our cultural foundation." Citing internal estimates, Gill claimed that more than 15 million illegal immigrants have entered the U.S. since former President Joe Biden took office – a figure not officially verified by federal agencies but frequently cited in conservative circles. The congressman linked this influx to rising housing costs, longer medical wait times and strained public education systems. He also raised concerns about the erosion of what he described as America's "unique cultural foundation." (Related: Trump declares NATIONAL EMERGENCY at the southern border, reverses Biden's policies that caused border crisis.) Gill hailed the OBBB as a turning point, vowing that Republicans will continue pushing for strict enforcement measures. "I also think that we have a unique cultural foundation in the United States, and that is something that is the foundation of everything else that we get to enjoy – the free market that we get to enjoy rests on a cultural foundation that includes social trust, and that is undermined by mass migration," Gill stated. "I think this is the biggest issue of our time. I think it's something we are working hard to solve, especially with this One Big, Beautiful Bill. It's something we ought to take very, very seriously." Head over to Trump.news for more stories about the president's immigration policy.
